“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
— Elliott Erwitt

A brilliant blue and pink sunset spread across the western sky, over Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

In selecting a work of fine art photography for your collection, a compelling image can inform atmosphere and ambiance, can inspire conversation, and bring a certain calm to a well-thought room. It is my job to capture the defining moment.

We take photographs and choose art to enliven our spaces, and to capture and define our view of things; How we see through the lens of life (and camera), and how we define our selves. our world and our surroundings, is reflected in the art we choose to embellish our rooms and corridors.

I strive to ensure my art remains as accessible as possible, to widen my scope on humanity, and upon life itself in its many forms. For all life is art, when cast in certain light, and when we tilt our head just so. As such, an excellent work of art, or a compelling photograph, should possess evocative power, and have the power to make one feel reverent, or humbled in the face of the great mystery of life.

Blacktail deer skull, Lake Cowichan., British Columbia, photo credit: Dean Unger
A photograph of a decomposing deer skull with antlers intact sits at the base of a stump in a remote Lake Cowichan rain forest, in Cowichan Valley, BC.

Beauty and aesthetic often hide in plain sight, but are inclined to reveal themselves with a little coaxing. I keep these things firmly in mind when I’m creating my art.

Omne trium perfectum: Everything that comes in threes is in a natural state of natural perfection.

In relation to the art of fine photography, The Rule of Thirds Is a photograph composition technique that places the subject on imagined invisible intersecting points and lines, similar to a Tic-Tac-Toe grid. The concept was coined in the late 18th century when painters and art critics began considering a balance and transitions between warm and cold colors and just how much of the painting each of these components should comprise.

Three Crows – taken at Ganges Harbour, Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.

Ultimately, it was decided that one third of the canvas should be composed of land and water, while two thirds should be composed of air and sky. Together with fidelity of chosen subject, these produce thought provoking, calming or stimulating imagery – and each has its place in home and décor design.

In this website you’ll find captivating fine art and decorative photographic prints, art cards, canvas prints available in signed and limited edition, and more. Specialty subjects include;
